As a child, he was obsessed with that violent video game- an unrepentant “internet addict.”
As a child, she was hot-tempered, a defiant rebel who fell in love too easily.
As a child, she had a gift- an uncanny talent for talking her friends out of trouble.
As a child, he couldn’t stop lying.
Their parents shook their heads, sighed, and sent them away to that school.
Break Out is a 75-minute play inspired by the Chinese societal phenomenon of “Internet Addiction Camps” and the controversial figure Yang Yongxin, known for using electric shock therapy on teens.
Through sharp wit and dark humor, the play explores the clash between youthful defiance and the rigid structures of the adult world. What future awaits a generation caught between control and rebellion? And how do we carry the weight of memories too painful to speak about?
